What is an Anticline?

An anticline is a fold that is convex up and has its oldest beds at its core. Below is a diagram of an anticline.

In the Richat structure, the top of the dome has been eroded away, revealing the inner, older centre, which is the rings we see today. Why or how the structure is nearly symmetrical is still a mystery, and our best guess so far is that it is simply a fluke.
